Everyday Green Smoothie {from Plant Based Detroit}
The easiest and yummiest way to get your greens!
Ingredients: (organic whenever possible)
1 cup filtered water
1 small lime or half a lemon, juiced
1/2 heart of romaine lettuce
2 large handfuls of baby spinach or kale
1 small bunch of fresh basil (5-7 leaves, depending on size)
1 small bunch of fresh parsley
1 persian cucumber, peeled if conventional
1/3 cup pineapple chunks, fresh or frozen
1 small or half a large banana, fresh or frozen
Instructions:
Place all items in your high powered blender, starting from softest to hardest, and process on the 'smoothie' setting (about 45 seconds on high speed). If you don't have a high power blender, I'd recommend blending in steps, first the liquids and greens until smooth, then add the remaining ingredients.
A time saving tip is to making a big batch in advance, and portion it out for a few days. This smoothie will last about 3 days in the refrigerator. It's best stored in Ball jars to avoid as much oxidation as possible.
Feel free to mix up the fresh herbs and fruit! Fresh mint is great in smoothies, or try swapping mango for the pineapple. The idea is that ratio should stay 70% greens, 30% fruit, but by all means, get creative!
